Prince Wujing’s arrest for an attempted rebellion stirred up a storm in the imperial court, but in the end, all was again returned to peace. After spending many years accumulating power in the imperial court—after countless years of being a thorn in the emperor's side—Prince Wujing, Xie Minquan, and his faction were finally uprooted. And oh, was it a delightful feeling to fell such a massive tree whose branches once blotted out the sun and sky.

Back in Jinling City, an orchestra and a troupe of actors stood on a stage performing the play of a jilted concubine, Baihua Ting (The Pavillion of a Hundred Flowers). The boisterous symphony of gold and jade cleansed the city, the orchid lamps burning the night sky as hot as day; on that night all were gathered as the festivities were in full swing.

Shen Yunjie's fingers turned cold at the question, his body rising from his seat before kneeling in front of Jiang Lingxin. Despite this, his voice remained composed as he answered, “Seven years ago, you informed me of the situation within the imperial court, master. You said that if Prince Wujing was not removed, there would come a day when the peace upon this land would be lost. Thus, this inadequate disciple of yours desired to share the weight of Master's burdens by infiltrating Wujing’s Palace as an informant.”

Notes:

Note: The play/opera is called The Drunken Concubine/Pavillion of a Hundred Flowers. It’s about the concubine Yang Yuhuan (Yang Guifei [she was so “that girl” she got a whole title created for her]) who was waiting for the emperor at the Hundred Flower Pavillion, but as the night went on, she realised he went to visit another concubine and got pissed drunk and reckless. She got so drunk, her servants lied and told her the emperor was actually coming after she had a meltdown (and possibly came on to someone), so she had another meltdown after finding out they lied. They calmed her down eventually. This is a rough summary of a play revolving around the Helen of Troy in Chinese history.
