“Then eat, eat! Eat as much as you like since it’s your favourite!” Hearing his youngest brother’s cheers was all it took to fill his face with delight. What’s more, to be an official, one has to stay true to their conscience—which is no easy task. But becoming a corrupt official is something I lack the ruthlessness to pursue. I don’t like making things hard for others; I’m not that kind of person, so even that route would be hard.

Along the streets filled with endless sweet fragrances, opulent horse-drawn carriages steadily made their drive. To the tune of the flute-born melodies, jade pots spun and dragon-shaped lanterns danced throughout the night. Donned in jewelled and floral ornaments with golden tassels, the sweet and joy-filled laughter filled the air with their delight. His searching gaze scoured the multitude countless times over until a sudden turn to peer behind him revealed her glowing form amongst the sparse and hazy lights.” While sipping a bit of tea and gazing at the bustling carriages and crowds ashore, Cang Xingye suddenly thought of the poem “Lantern Festival’s Night” by the Song Dynasty poet, Xin Qiji. The lanterns draped along both sides of the river’s bank resembled a dragon, whose length extended far into the distance, beyond where it could be seen.

Besides, you’re the one talented at studying, Second Brother. I’m nothing but a one-trick pony compared to you.” Hearing his brother’s words was enough to snap Cang Xingye out of his daze, as he waved his hands wildly in refusal and inwardly cursed himself for forgetting his position, period, and place.

“No way, Second Brother. I have no inclination towards becoming an official. There was also the case of his previous life being filled with hardships because of money and soaring house prices, so he had resolved to make his sole desire in this lifetime the amalgamation of his wealth. What of love, you ask? He also had no interest in anything that could not be eaten. As per his philosophy, so long as one lives, money is the most important thing in life. Yes, it was not able to buy a person everything, but it could provide enough joy and comforts to get him through his second go at life. Besides, as they say, anything that can be solved with money is a non-issue, or put simply, you need the ability to afford it~ Hahaha! Apologies for that. Cang Xingye very much likes the feeling of being able to afford to control his own fate. The only thing left was the feeling of being envied by others, unable to be even a pebble in his path, and that was one he had also vowed to do his level best in achieving.

“But... you do have talent, little brother. It’d be such a waste to bury it and not be a scholar,” Cang Xingyan couldn’t help but give his younger brother his sincere advice. He, himself, had studied for ages, yet this was a poem not even he could construct.

“Indeed. Qinglan County truly possesses a unique charm under the shroud of night.” Fitting his status as a scholar, Cang Xingyan concurred.

The lanterns draped along both sides of the river’s bank resembled a dragon, whose length extended far into the distance, beyond where it could be seen.“The city truly looks quite different from the lake itself,” Cang Xingoing commented before taking a bite of stuffed pastry.

青玉案·元夕 (Lantern Festival) by 辛弃疾 (Xin Qiji) [Song Dynasty]

A cool spring breeze swayed the brilliant lights dotting the night in all its splendour; the embers dancing on the currents, falling to the earth like sprites.

Along the streets filled with endless sweet fragrances, opulent horse-drawn carriages steadily made their drive.

To the tune of the flute-born melodies, jade pots spun and dragon-shaped lanterns danced throughout the night.

Donned in jewelled and floral ornaments with golden tassels, the sweet and joy-filled laughter infused the air with their delight.

His searching gaze scoured the multitude countless times over until a sudden turn to peer behind him revealed her glowing form amongst the sparse and hazy lights.

So, to his family, Cang Xingye's recitation of this poem made it seem as if he wrote it.
